A Candela C-8 Polestar Edition – piloted by CEO Gustav Hasselskog – has completed the first-ever intercontinental journey by an electric vessel, traveling from Europe to Africa across the Strait of Gibraltar.
The C-8 crossed from Sotogrande in Spain to Ceuta in North Africa – a 24-nautical mile trip – in just over an hour. According to the company, the vessel then recharged and returned on the same day using €16 (US$18) worth of electricity for the round trip, whereas the gasoline-powered photo boat used €180 (US$204) in fuel.
Hasselskog said, “With this journey – the first between two continents in an electric vessel – we’re showing what’s possible with electric hydrofoils: clean, cost-effective transport that connects cities and communities.”
In related news, Candela recently closed the largest funding round in its history with €24.5m (US$26.6m) to expand production of its P-12 ferry. Click here to read the full story
