Aqua SuperPower has installed its first marine fast charger on Italy’s Lake Garda, marking the start of a planned network of high-power charging points around the lake.
The inaugural unit, located at Nautica Feltrinelli shipyard in Gargnano, will be followed by a second installation in Lazise on the eastern shore, creating a charging corridor to support electric boating across one of Europe’s busiest inland waterways.
The installation uses Aqua SuperPower’s Aqua 75 DC fast charger, which operates via the CCS standard, delivering 75kW, and can recharge compatible vessels from 20% to 80% in about 45 minutes. Designed for the lake’s freshwater environment, the system is cloud-connected for remote monitoring, maintenance and user access through Aqua’s mobile app. The chargers are brand-agnostic and compatible with many leading electric boat models, the company says.
Nautica Feltrinelli has been operating on Lake garda since 1919. The shipyard now serves as the exclusive Italian importer for Austrian luxury boat builder Frauscher – offering sales, rentals, vintage restorations and winter storage.
Aqua SuperPower’s Italy manager, Michele Bolpagni, said, “This first charger on Lake Garda is a pivotal moment for sustainable boating in Italy. Partnering with Nautica Feltrinelli – a family-run icon with over a century of nautical heritage – allows us to honor tradition while accelerating the electric revolution. With the upcoming Lazise installation, we’ll bridge the lake’s shores, making zero-emission adventures accessible to all. Events like the Frauscher Autumn Open Doors will showcase how effortless and exhilarating e-boating has become.”
Mauro Feltrinelli, CEO of Nautica Feltrinelli, added, “At Nautica Feltrinelli, we’ve always balanced our artisan roots with forward-thinking innovation, and this collaboration with Aqua SuperPower embodies that spirit. Lake Garda’s pristine waters deserve clean, quiet propulsion, and our new fast charger empowers our Frauscher clients to explore without compromise.”
The Lake Garda project extends Aqua SuperPower’s European footprint, following deployments in the UK, France, Europe, the Nordics and the USA. The company says its aim is to create a consistent marine charging ecosystem for both recreational and commercial operators.
The European electric boat market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 13.2% between 2022 and 2028, reaching a value of £4.4m (US$5.9m), according to a 2023 study by boats.com. Aqua SuperPower’s expansion in Italy will support this momentum by providing the charging infrastructure needed to accelerate adoption of electric propulsion on inland and coastal waters.
