In its first contract to supply maritime battery systems, Nereida Energy will provide systems with a total capacity of 17MWh to Frydenbø Elmarin. The systems will be installed on two ferries owned by Vestlandske Trafikk, which will be converted to electric propulsion for operation in the Geirangerfjord, starting in summer 2026.

The Geirangerfjord is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and from January 2026 strict requirements for zero-emission vessels will come into effect. This project is an important contribution to reducing emissions and preserving the unique nature of the fjord.

The delivery includes two Nereida Energy LFP battery systems. One system, with a capacity of 12.7MWh, will be installed on MF Hjørungavåg; the other, with a capacity of 4.4MWh, will be installed on MF Jotunheim.

“This is a great day for Nereida Energy. Our first contract is not only a milestone for the company but also proof that our strategy of building trust, being transparent and creating long-term relationships has significant value in the maritime market,” said Geir Bjørkeli, the CEO of Nereida Energy. “We are proud to contribute to the electrification of the Geirangerfjord and look forward to delivering a project that sets a new standard for quality and sustainability.”

“We greatly appreciate the trust Frydenbø Elmarin and Vestlandske Trafikk have placed in us,” added Pål-Ove Husøy, the CCO of Nereida Energy. “This project gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise and technology in one of the world’s most iconic maritime environments. We will honor this trust and deliver a project that both we and our customers can be proud of. This gives us important momentum in the market – now we are truly underway.”

“We are pleased to collaborate with Nereida Energy on this important project,” stated Geir Gustad, the CEO of Frydenbø Elmarin. “The electrification of ferries in the Geirangerfjord is a major step toward a more sustainable future for the Norwegian maritime sector. Nereida Energy has shown an impressive commitment to cooperation and delivery, and we look forward to realizing this together.”

This project sends a clear signal that the maritime industry is taking electrification seriously and investing in solutions that secure both environmental sustainability and future operations.

Nereida Energy was formed after a management buy-out of Yinson Green Technologies from Yinson group, and provides battery and energy storage solutions for maritime and offshore applications.
