The Role:
Keel Marine is looking for a Naval Architect with a proven track record, with ideally 3 years plus experience. You should have a structural bias and ideally be working towards being chartered.
You will be a crucial part of a small team of professionals where your input will be appreciated. At Keel Marine we have a number of interesting and exciting projects currently underway and we are looking for someone who wants to grow with us. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Preparing and checking calculations for strength and structural aspects
• Preparing detailed plans and drawings of the proposed vessel or structure, using computer-aided design (CAD) software
• Ensuring that the design is economical, functional, and that the vessel or structure is safe and seaworthy
• Assessing what materials and equipment are needed and planning the construction process
• Obtaining materials and coordinating the construction, launch and trials of the vessel or structure
• Collaborating with engineers from other disciplines and managing build projects and the resources required to make sure it meets the budget and deadline
• Making sure that the work done meets required international safety and quality standards
• Design ships and boats, related components and specialist equipment, using complex mathematical and physical models to ensure the ship’s design is technical sound and that is complies with safety regulations.
• Act as a consultant – providing clients with engineering solutions, technical and commercial guidance, support and project management for concept design studies, new vessel constructions, refits and conversions
• Conduct risk analysis of ships and marine structures, using the regulations of classification societies and intergovernmental organisations such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), to assess aspects of design such as strength, stability and lifesaving
• Ensure projects are completed in accordance with industry standards
• Conducting assessments and analysis including stability and hydrodynamics.
• Undertake surveys structural and condition, inclining experiments and displacement/lightship checks
• Interpret complex technical information and drawings
• Plan and manage programmes of work
• Maintaining good client relationships
• Project tendering. Analysing tender requests and preparing responses.
• Liaise with clients and marine authorities
• Global travel as required
Essential Experience:
• Solid knowledge of CAD
• Solid knowledge in designing and building small boats (of up to 50m in length)
• Solid knowledge in performing stability calculations, performance prediction, structural assessment.
• Management of own time and capacity to deliver to tight deadlines, following strict project plans
• High attention to detail
• Good verbal and written presentation skills
Desirable Experience:
• Chartered or working towards
• Experience of using Paramarine preferred
• Experience of using Solidworks preferred
Essential Requirements:
Due to the nature of some particular projects carried out by the company, you will be required to undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This will normally require you to have been in the UK for a period of time and have the right to work in the UK.
